Fallen Oak. Remains of a once stately and beautiful covering for this portion of a dry and golden field in the Cesar Chavez National Monument.

It was calling out “paint me” as it laid there in its resting place. There is still admiration for the fallen and remembrance of the beauty they once held.

Painting in two visits, on location, and with final touches in the studio gave great pleasure in capturing this image. May it bring thoughts of remembering the fallen for you.

The Big Blowup – Hot Air Balloon

It’s fascinating to watch the folds of material, laying on the ground, rise into beautiful patchworks of design and color by hot air filling its form. “The Big Blowup” inspires me with the potential of humanity when the Spirit of God fills us, and we too become beautiful patchworks of vibrant colors lovingly designed in God’s image.

Flight Design – Hot Air Balloons

I love the colors and design elements that hot air balloons bring to the picture, providing a endless source of scenes to photograph and paint. This scene shows the balloon’s design slowly being revealed, as the vessel of flight expands upwards. “Flight Design” reminds us to become vessels of the Son of Righteousness, and be filled with the warmth of His love.

Like the hot air balloon, able to defy gravity and rise above the earth, I’m reminded of the day that “We…shall be caught up…to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thess 4:17).

The adventures of a hot air balloon pilot! Where will the winds take him? And what is the greatest adventure yet?

Man’s life fades like the grass. But not to be the end of the adventure, “Flighting The Brush” represents that day when we are raised and will pass by this experience to an even greater adventure, an eternal one.
